Past Updates

Storm Clean-Up Efforts: 2/10/2023

Public Works, with periodic help from additional contractors, has begun the process of clearing vegetative debris stacked at residential curbs and in rights-of-way. They will cover each street only once, and any debris placed at the curb after they have cleared a street will not be picked up, and will be the responsibility of the homeowner to remove.

In an effort to expedite city-wide clean-up, dumpsters will remain at the upper park through the weekend, and are available for residential vegetative debris. We ask that these dumpsters are not utilized by contractors clearing residential properties, as they will fill up quickly and delay clean-up efforts.

We appreciate your patience as we work to remove the debris that has accumulated due to last week’s ice storm.

Storm Clean-Up Efforts: 2/9/2023

Regular garbage and recycling pickup will take place today, Thursday, February 9. Due to truck capacity, curbside stacks of brush may not be collected by Waste Connections at this time. Please continue following all regularly scheduled curbside trash and recycling collection guidelines, and please try to keep any brush and limbs stacked at the curb from blocking the street. Public Works is working to collect and chip brush and fallen limbs from main thoroughfares and city infrastructure.

Dumpsters have been placed at the upper park for residential collection of vegetative debris. We ask that no contractors clearing residential properties use these dumpsters, as they will fill up quickly and delay clean-up efforts.

We will continue to send updates about debris removal plans. We appreciate your patience as we work to clean up the community.

Mayor Massingill Temporarily Removes Tree Removal, Pruning and Replacement Requirements

The ice storm on Wednesday, February 1 left widespread damage to trees throughout the city. This storm event created hardship on residents and  will require residents and property owners to remove damaged trees for the sake of health and safety. For these reasons, Mayor Massingill is temporarily waiving the tree replacement requirement of Division 10, Subdivision 2, Section 107-375, per authority granted to him under Section 107-375(g).

Further, since numerous health and safety issues exist as a result of this storm, Mayor Gavin Massingill has declared that residents may perform emergency removal and/or pruning of protected trees under Section 107-373(b). Therefore, for trees that were damaged during the mentioned ice storm, no permitting liability exists if you are operating to remove a tree that presents a clear and immediate threat to persons or structures.

We also remind you that it is Oak Wilt season. Please treat any damage to oak trees quickly and appropriately to safeguard against unintentional oak wilt spread. If you have any questions, please contact City Administrator, Ashley Wayman at awayman@rollingwoodtx.gov.
